RMR Testing
Want to lose weight? Gain weight? Perform better?
This test will provide your Resting Metabolic Rate.
Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is the measurement of how much food, (aka energy), is needed to maintain your body functions while you are in a state of rest. That energy is expressed in calories per day, and this gives us insight into what your nutritional intake should look like.
What does RMR testing consist of?
Testing is actually very simple and only takes about 30 minutes. You sit comfortably and breath, using a breathing tube that connects to our metabolic machine. It then analyzes your RMR through indirect calorimetry (a measurement of metabolic rate) through Oxygen uptake and expired CO2. Sounds fancy, right? It’s very simple, and accurate, and will give us a reading at the end with your daily caloric needs.
It’s best to measure a person’s metabolic rate at a true resting level. We recommend the following preparation for accurate results:
- Test after an overnight fast or avoid eating a meal at least 4 hours before the test. We recommend testing between the hours of 7-9am and are open Monday-Friday during this window for testing.
- Avoid exercising on the day of testing.
- If possible, avoid the use of stimulants such as caffeine prior to testing.
